Qualifications for (ECS) Applicant
An Emergency Communications Specialist (ECS) is responsible for receiving and dispatching critical and precise information for Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services as well as handling telephone inquiries from the public, while maintaining compliance with FCC rules and regulations. ECS's work 12-hours shifts, which may include weekends and/or holidays, and will be required to work during emergency management situations such as hurricanes, floods, industrial explosions, terrorism incidents, etc. ECS's provide a crucial link between the public and emergency first responders and play a vital role in public safety.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a United States citizen. Must be able to obtain Department of Public Safety Certification on NCIC/TCIC within six months from the date of hire. Must be able to obtain the following within one year from date of hire: TCOLE Basic Telecommunicator License and CPR Certification. High School Diploma or equivalent required. An ECS candidate must be able to perform well during high stress incidents. One year Police, Fire and EMS dispatch experience preferred. Bilingual is requites; however, it is preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
An ECS candidate must have the following: knowledge of computer operations stressing accuracy and speed, the ability to work in stressful situations and emergencies, the ability to multi-task, the ability to effectively handle extensive data entry and public contact and the ability to work in a team setting.
